Our Sweet Freedom – Hang On To It
The Earth has bestowed a very sweet freedom upon all living things, and the wisdom today is that this inherent freedom, amid all facets of life, must remain in synch with the natural world that sustains us. This means that we should be loving, respectful, and treat everything with integrity.
Our history shows otherwise. Are the Big Corps doing this today? What do we do about it?
Don’t sit this one out. You are alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet. It is our birthright to live with freedom of choice, so do what you can to hang on to it.
I-522 Freedom Campaign
The latest battle for freedom is taking place in Washington State where consumers are making a simple request – label the GMO foods being farmed and sold in Washington State.
This logical expectation for open, integris information is being venomously fought by the industries. Why?
Apparently, they are seeking total control of the food supply, and on their terms. Why?
I can only guess for mega-profits and the ultimate control of our food supply.
This sounds like something out of a sci-fi novel – or from our history books.
Who’s Behind The Control?
This industry line-up includes the following corporations dropping millions of dollars into a political campaign to fight consumers for their freedom of choice and information:
- $3.2 million from Dupont, on top of $171,281 previously contributed;
- $562,000 pledge from Dow Agrisciences;
- $500,000 pledge from BASF Plant Science;
- Montsanto has made the biggest investment with a $4.5 million contribution to the “corporate vote” for a No-on-522 campaign.
The corporations promoting a no-vote for I- 522 legislation say that if voters require warning labels on genetically modified food products, the typical family of four would pay an additional $490 a year for groceries. They have solicited family farms, physicians, and state leaders to convince the voters that the simple labeling text on GMOs will create costly chaos and tax-payers will pay the State more money. For a corporate food label?
The logical, and integris, question to ask is WHY? All foods are required to be properly labeled, and this does not create cost increases. Printing a label is merely printing a label. It appears that the Big Corps fear extreme loss of sales as soon as people read GMO on the label.
It’s Now Or Never
I-522 state legislation will require labeling requirements on genetically manufactured foods and seeds (GMOs) for sale in Washington State. This seems like a very reasonable and responsible request for freedom of information.
Well, the reality (and it’s a pretty disturbing one) is that more than our freedom is being threatened. Humans may never be able to reverse the damage that will be done to the Earth and to all life if genetically manufactured foods and seeds are allowed to dominate our world.
Truth and information is the vehicle for awareness. The issue of labeling a GMO product should never even be up for a “vote” – this should be a given. Just print a new label. The corporations know this, and that’s why they are fighting to take away our freedom of choice.
A GMO ballot in California launched a similar, deep-pocket, corporate advertising blitz, and sadly, the corporations won their right to deny people the freedom of information in California. Don’t let this freedom get pushed back even further by losing our right to know in other US States.
Freedom Fighter
As with every freedom fighter in human history, modern Americans are no different than William Wallace and Joan of Arc. Do whatever you can to support the freedom-fighters in Washington State because they are fighting for YOUR freedom, too. Help the Yes on 522 Campaign by taking action to support their spirit – their cause. The more we join together, we can send a message to the Big Corps, to Big Money, and to our politicians that we are not sheep led by trickery, money or lies.
Hang on to every bit of freedom that we have so we can keep it in our future.
When Will Your State Be Next?
One day soon, this ballot will appear in YOUR state – it will be YOUR time to defend YOUR freedom and right to know what is being sold to you as “safe.” The opinions of the corporations profiting off GMOs may not be your opinion, and you have the right to know what is in their products sold for profit. Isn’t this creating a food monopoly, and don’t we have laws protecting us against monopolies?
If we lose this underlying battle to preserve our “Freedom of Choice” and “Our Right to Know“, then our future will sadly see more freedom slipping away.
What’s the big deal, anyway? Why are the Big Corps resisting this so inflexibly? We are merely asking for the corporations to be held accountable for information that effects our health and safety and our right to express our freedom of choice. Right?
Support a Yes on 522 Campaign, and maybe this insidious political battle will end sooner than later for the good of all life on Earth.
