Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you can prevent a kidney stone?
I know: never say never, but it is certainly worth it.
There are many natural ways to help prevent kidney stones, especially stones large enough to cause lots of pain. In Part 1 of this series, I explained what kidney stones are, and in Part 2, I recommend ways to keep your kidneys from forming large stones.
If it’s any consolation, every animal has some form of sediments inside of them. The key to preventing stones is by controlling what your body’s environment is like, and this reflects what type of food and drink you consume daily, your average body pH, and what sediments you are exposed to.
What You Drink
Water
Up to 60% of the human adult body is water; some research has shown that your brain and heart are composed of around 73% water, and that your lungs are about 83% water.
To me, this means that you should be drinking at least 83% water everyday to keep your body hydrated enough to prevent sediments from drying out and depositing inside of you, in particularly, inside of your kidneys and bladder.
So, let’s say that you drink 12 glasses of something – everyday. Ten of those glasses should be water, and the other 2 can be something else – coffee, a cola, juice, tea, or a glass of wine.
Water Filters
There is little doubt that our modern world is becoming more polluted by the day, and this means that your exposure to pollutants is rising, by the day.
Pollution is in our air, soil, water, and in our food. And, the body considers pollution as sediments.
That said, instead of spending big bucks on bottled water, using water filters in your home and office is a great solution to purifying your drinking water. I recommend filtering both city water and well water.
And note that filtering city water is more than just eliminating the chlorine. It’s filtering pollutants and other sediments, too.
If possible, install a water purification system on your main house line, and this will filter your sinks, showers, and ice maker. Simply refill your own bottles to take your water to work or school. Having access to filtered water from your sink also cuts down on pollution from plastic water bottles, too.
There are many water purification systems and companies available, and at many different prices. I highly recommend Culligan water softening and water treatment systems. I have Culligan on my water well, and I must admit that drinking pure water straight from Mother Nature seems a little weird in today’s Western chlorinated world.
I love the natural taste of real water.
Colas
According to a Gallup poll, nearly half of Americans drink at least one glass of soda daily. I work with people who drink up to a 12-pack of diet cola a day.
There are 1.9 billion servings of Coca-Cola Company products sold every day, worldwide. And this is just Coke.
Cola machines are found in elementary schools, hospitals, shopping centers, post offices, daycares, and senior centers. Remember, everything in moderation, so if you or your kids are craving a cola, limit yourself to one or two a week.
If you drink coffee or tea daily, follow this same prescription.
Your kidneys will thank you for it.
Body pH
Maintaining a balanced body pH is very important for preventing kidney stones. Just remember this basic Rule of Thumb:
When your pH is too alkaline, sediments deposit inside of your tissues and arteries, organs, and skin due to a lack of water and oxygen. We are alkaline when we die, and dried stream beds, lakes, and rivers are filled with fossilized alkaline sediments like an ancient graveyard.
When your pH is too acidic, disease environments form due to too much acid and a lack of oxygen. It is best to be more alkaline than acidic, but if you drive alkalinity up too high, sediment issues can result.
The solution is to keep a balanced body pH between 6.4 and 6.6 – not too hot – not too cold.
It’s wise to test your saliva and urine pH periodically, especially if you are experiencing health symptoms, or if you have had kidney stones in the past.
And, if you drink a lot of colas, which rob your body of both oxygen and water, and are also full of sediments.
Detoxing
Detoxing is one of the most important health tools around. Detoxing can prevent illness, result in more energy, weight loss, and aid in keeping you looking younger.
Heck, when you clean your car, it always looks better, right? Detoxing your body can result in the same positive benefits.
And detoxing can help in the prevention of kidney stones by flushing out sediments deposited in your kidneys.
Detoxing is more than just taking a round of supplements to “clean the system.” Detoxing is a lifestyle. Detoxing is an education, and detoxing provides a greater awareness into how you are living your life.
A good detox means:
- Getting a hair analysis with a detailed interpretation to discover what toxins you ARE exposed to;
- Removing those newly discovered toxins, both from your environment and from your body;
- Restoring depleted nutrients and inefficient digestion;
- Balancing your body pH;
- Adopting a healthy lifestyle;
- Believing that YOU are in control of your own health.
