A few years ago, I got a call from CBS Morning News to fly to New York to film a segment on flavored water. As much as I wish that I could have rearranged my schedule, I was not able to grant the interview, but I had a lot that I wanted to say …
CBS read the article I had written Beware Of Flavored Waters.
I get it – I really do. Flavored water is better than drinking a diet cola. But, they still aren’t better than drinking real water.
So, why do you drink flavored water? Seriously ask yourself this question. WHY teach your kids to go for the “sweet” taste when plain water is the #1 choice for all animals?
WHO profits in this venture? Not YOU or your children.
Healthy Choices
Set a rule that everything you eat and drink stays real – drink natural, spring water.
If you are trying to kick the cola habit and are jonesin’ for flavor in your water, you have many natural options. For instance, add lemon, lime, beets, or real cranberry juice to your water.
Here’s a tip we do at The Hullistic Network: add liquid peppermint flavored chlorophyll to bottled water.
Chlorophyll is not only healthy for you, but the peppermint flavor tastes refreshing and leaves your breath smelling great. Chlorophyll helps balance your body weight and your pH; chlorophyll is loaded in natural minerals and phytonutrients, and supports blood health.
Watching your calories? Well, chlorophyll/lemon/lime and naturally flavored water have zero calories. Artificial colors and flavorings? None. Chemical sweeteners? Zero, nada, zippo, ningunos, neun.
Read your labels carefully, though – the various flavored waters have unnecessary calories added to them. They even add artificial sweeteners to them, too.
Does Your Plain Water Get Boring?
Most people admit that they just don’t like the taste of plain water, and they have a hard time drinking enough water every day; the flavored water just tastes better to them.
Snappy advertisements show fitness experts recommending flavored water while working out because vitamin waters have more calories, warning that you’ll have to do 15 more minutes on the stationary bike to burn those extra calories.
Advertisers Aren’t Nutritionists
Why aren’t you satisfied drinking a pure form of water? Real water is what your body is made of and what it survives on. Pure spring water is what all other animals drink every day to stay alive.
As I have written many times: “advertisers aren’t nutritionists.” Advertisers are simply trying to make money, so avoid the gimmicks that can make you sick. Especially when at the gym.
Get Chemical Drinks Out Of The Schools
If we have any hope of raising a healthy “next generation“, we must get these “sweet, irresponsible, temptations” out of the schools.
Parents and teachers should teach children real nutrition.
Eat like your grandparents. They did not face the issues that we struggle with today – obesity, apathy, learning disorders, lower IQs, ADD, or epidemic degenerative diseases.
Get a cold glass of spring water, and wean off the flavored drinks. Learn how to appreciate Mother Nature’s gift to all living things. Pure, fresh water.
Bottoms up!
