With all the recent rains in Texas, the mosquitoes have come out in force. Big Texas-sized ones and the little ones that you can’t swat.
As you know, I post often about natural ways to scatter them, but sometimes they get so bad, you have to spray on the DEET. If you’re like me, you keep searching for better ways to stay outside when the mosquitoes keep flying, and I had 2 people share what has been working for them.
I’m going to try these, for sure.
Natural Oils
Dr. Hull, here’s something I found that works. I take:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil;
- add 12 drops peppermint oil;
- mix well;
- rub on.
My wife used it at the Boy Scout summer camps in Tennessee and Georgia. No problem with mosquitos, ticks or fleas. We’ve been using it for years.
The alternative to this is to send out a sacrificial bait person 5 minutes before. Let the mosquitos get full on their blood and then the rest can come out. LOL
Listerine
I was at a deck party last summer, and a man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine®. The mosquitos disappeared.
Fill a 4-ounce bottle with any type of Listerine, and spray as needed.
Try these two tips if mosquitoes are a problem at your home, campsite, or local park.
And buy a frog, or two, or one-hundred.
