Do you have a garden? What about growing tomatoes on your porch?
We all enjoy growing fresh fruits and veggies, but most of us give up after a while because it’s a lot of work. The weeds take over and your plants get icky fungus and turn yellow.
So you typically give up on the tomatoes and abandon tending your garden.
Your Body And Your Garden
Gardening takes lots of time, water, sunshine, and extra nutrients. The soil and water pH needs to be just right, especially if you have a Tower Garden set up.
Your body works the same way! It needs time, water, sunshine, a good pH and extra nutrients.
Time
We all know that as we age over time, we need to support our bodies as we age. There are actually two types of aging:
- Intrinsic aging that occurs naturally as we grow older and is largely a result of heredity;
- Extrinsic aging, which is based almost entirely on external factors, such as toxins in our environment, in foods and found in medicines.
An important point about intrinsic aging – heredity isn’t a curse for impending illness.
If you have inherited a “weak link”, such as high blood pressure or cancer, you have actually been given a blessing because now you know what you need to do to help your body get stronger so it can resist the negative cards that you have been dealt.
Think about genetic heart disease, as a good example. Did you inherit a small-shaped heart or narrow arteries? Now you know that you need to exercise regularly, what foods to avoid, and that you should take a B3 niacin daily to keep your blood stream fluid and clean of thickening toxins.
Preventing extrinsic aging requires all of the above, but you should also detox regularly, and get a hair analysis once a year to keep your pulse on possible current toxic exposure at your home or in your office. This way, you can remove those sources, and if they cannot be determined, you can keep them in check by detoxing regularly.

Water
Everyone’s daily required water intake varies due to different lifestyles, where you live, how much you exercise, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, but the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that a general, adequate daily fluid intake is:
- About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) a day for men
- About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) a day for women
This sounds like a lot of water for most people, but if you drink only water throughout the day, this should be an easy goal to reach. Most everyone grows tired of drinking this much water daily, so find ways to satisfy this goal with enthusiasm. Try adding electrolytes to the water in your Yeti, or squeeze a lemon or lime, cranberries or blueberries into your water. Make your own ice cubes filled with fruit.
Get creative with naturally flavoring your water.
Sunshine
Scientists at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research have devised a calculator to help you estimate how many minutes of exposure you need based on your latitude, on your skin and eye color to produce 25 mcg (1,000 International Units) of vitamin D.
These exposure times are considered enough to maintain healthy vitamin D status, but if you have a vitamin D deficiency, you might need more through a supplement.
Vitamin Supplements
Many people feel that if they eat right, they do not need extra vitamin supplements. Back in the day, this was true, but in today’s world, supplying your body with all the essential and non-essential nutrients it needs daily is getting harder to do. I highly recommend getting a hair analysis to see what your nutrient levels actually are, and then you can determine if you need an extra supplement, or not.
You may simply need more of one or two supplements, such as molybdenum, germanium, or lithium. Find out what your body needs to stay healthy, and proceed from there.
If you need more germanium, for example, eat more mushrooms.
Tending a garden takes, time, patience, and dedication. This applies to maintaining your health, too.
Tend your garden – all of them.
