If you’re taking a calcium supplement, do you know where it comes from or what form of calcium that you are using? If it’s the wrong form of calcium, you may be wasting your money because it’s probably not going to do your body any good.
The “wrong” forms of calcium are those forms that have already been “processed”, like oyster shells, egg shells, and bone meal. Your body wants to assimilate and dissect it’s own calcium nutrients, so if you are providing it a form that has already been assimilated, it will more than likely reject it.
Would you eat a piece of chicken that someone else has already chewed? I imagine not. Plus, your body needs more than just calcium to feed your bones, nerves, and assist in collagen formation.
The wrong forms of calcium will not be used by your body, so they will circulate within your blood until they exit, but this means that the thickness of your blood can increase, and if your blood thickens, you increase your chances of having heart disease.
Research studies have shown that taking the “wrong” form of calcium can increase your risk of a heart attack.
The Right Kind Of Calcium
As I wrote above, it is best to take a calcium supplement that has not already been digested and processed by another animal, such as the oyster shell or a cow. Basically, the nutrients that solidify the shell are now dead. They have no nourishing value to create anything else.
Your bones, nerves, skin, and hair also need more than just calcium. You should supplement with these other bone nutrients along with your calcium supplement:
- silica
- phosphorus
- strontium
- boron
- cobalt
- zinc
The complex calcium nutrients found in nature are far more advanced than just grinding up that oyster shell. Your body does not feed from a shell, so it will not absorb any nutrients into your bones, and hence, this indigestible calcium will deposit outside of the bone, eventually causing joint pain and arthritis.
Let Your Body Do The Work
I always recommend undigested and unaltered forms of anything you use when taking vitamin supplements, especially when it comes to a calcium supplement.
The body doesn’t benefit from by-products that have already been “processed” and digested by another animal; this includes what another animal has already used up, like an oyster making its shell. The concoctions from a man-made laboratory have been chemically processed, too, and do little to benefit your body.
You benefit the best from doing your own nutrient processing and assimilation of undigested nutrients – all nutrients.
Consider your body its own processing plant, and never “feed it” by-products that have already been used up.
Animals in the wild eat natural forms of unprocessed calcium, such as dolomite. Deer, elk, moose, antelope, and gazelle all nibble on dolomite in caves and on the sides of creeks and rivers to restore the nutrients needed to grow their antlers and hooves.
Tropical birds fly to the clay cliffs daily in South America to consume raw clay sediments rich in calcium, magnesium, silica, boron, and phosphorus to detox from any toxic foods they may have eaten that day.
All wild animals go to the river beds to eat clay if they have eaten a rancid kill.
If you are taking magnesium, I recommend supplementing with a natural 1:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium when supplementing with these essential elements – this is how it is always found in nature.
This means that a Ca/Mg supplement should have equal proportions of both, such as 500 mg calcium to 500 mg magnesium, or 1000 mg calcium to 1,000 mg magnesium. Most manufactured forms of Ca/Mg are higher in calcium than magnesium, such as 500 mg calcium to 250 mg magnesium, or 1000 mg calcium to 400 mg magnesium.
In nature, you’ll also find other unprocessed bone nutrients that contain a complex of elements needed to restore, bone, nerve, gum, tooth, hair, skin and nail health.
THIS is what you need when you supplement your calcium.
Calcium’s Silica
Take the natural forms of unprocessed calcium as a source of health. If you’re looking for a healthy calcium supplement, I recommend NOW 1:1 Ca/Mg, Jarrow’s Bone-Up®, NOW’s Bone Strength® and liquid BioSil®.
Your body will get to work processing these better forms of nutrients.
