Have you ever wondered why your dog or cat never catch a cold? Horses and turtles never get the flu.
- tarsiers
- monkeys and apes
Bats, capybaras and guinea pigs can’t produce their own vitamin C, either.
I find this very interesting because pharmaceutical companies used primates and guinea pigs in their laboratory research before Pita came down on them. They used bats to study COVID. Makes sense if you want to match health reactions in humans to the research results – none of these animals produces their own vitamin C.
Today, they use mice and rats that DO produce vitamin C, and this skews the results that apply to humans, in my opinion.
Humans do NOT produce their own vitamin C because in the human genome, a mutation at the coding region of a gene known as L-gulonolactone oxidase (GULO) renders this pathway dysfunctional.
So, humans are unable to synthesize vitamin C. Oops.
The Key To Vitamin C
The key to vitamin C’s success in health is increasing how much you take to bowel tolerance. This means that you must ingest enough of it to do you the most good.
The health benefits of vitamin C go back a long way. History shows that vitamin C has been used to prevent colds, flu, and allergies for centuries.
Today, most people don’t eat enough vitamin C in their food. And in my opinion, the RDA of 60 – 100 mg daily minimum required is way too low. I recommend letting your body tell you how much you need daily, and you do this by monitoring your bowels.
Let me explain.
Rats And Bats Making Vitamin C
All animals on the planet make vitamin C in their livers, except the primates (including humans), the guinea pig, and most of the bats found in India and China.
This is important because this holds a key to diseases, like viruses, and how humans can naturally resist them – or not.
Check this out:
A 150-pound human (or 150-pound ape or guinea pig, for that matter) requires an average of 12 grams/per day of vitamin C, based on studies that found a 150-pound animal (like a dog, cow, lion, or moose) produces on average 13 grams of vitamin C per day.
However, if that animal is placed under stress, its vitamin C output is higher.
Have you been under any stress lately? Consider increasing your vitamin C.
Nature is amazing because in the natural world, so many healing nutrients are available to us, like vitamin C. We have simply forgotten just how amazing they can be!

How Vitamin C Works
Healthy cells combine oxygen with fuel from food nutrients in a “burning” process that creates heat and energy. The higher the oxygen level, the greater your vitality.
Unhealthy cells and diseased cells, like malignant cells for example, have a different method of respiration called “fermentation“, which takes place only when oxygen levels are low or absent. This means that diseased cells are growing in an environment that is low in oxygen, and the toxic load in the tissues has stalled the oxygenating reactions.
When your body is detoxed, your oxygen levels rise, and normal oxygenation resumes. Disease conditions are gone because diseases die in the presence of oxygen, and normal cell function takes over again. The dead, diseased cells are excreted through your bowels.
One key to the elimination of toxins through the bowels is your vitamin C level.
Bowel Tolerance
Decades before Linus Pauling PhD began studying the benefits of vitamin C, one of the first nutritionists, Dr. William Cathcart, MD, refined his method of detoxing with mega doses of vitamin C.
He recommended increasing the vitamin C level to bowel tolerance, which is the point at which all of the body tissues are saturated with vitamin C.
Beyond this point, the excess vitamin C excretes through the bowels as a loose stool or diarrhea. Then you know that you are at saturation levels.
I doubt many people have a loose stool taking merely 60 mg of vitamin C.
Who Needs Vitamin C?
Everyone is different, so based on your personal health needs, everyone requires a different level of vitamin C daily. That said, here are some guidelines to get you started.
If you are low in oxygen, you may require higher daily doses of vitamin C.
- People with asthma, allergies, smokers, or people living in high air pollution areas, like in big, congested cities.
- Medications, surgeries, drugs, poisons, food chemicals, excessive cold or heat, and any infectious agent all deplete vitamin C levels and greatly increase the need for more.
- Stress depletes vitamin C.
- If you are constipated, more than likely your vitamin C levels are really low.
Vitamin C is a critical essential nutrient to every animal, but again, humans, the guinea pig, monkeys and apes, and many species of bats don’t make vitamin C in the livers like all other animals do.
Hence, the secret to vitamin C is our need to supplement with enough daily.
