It’s a particularly hot day, and you’re sweating a lot. All of a sudden, you feel a little sick and you get a stomach cramp. You might even have some diarrhea or vomiting. It gets worse if you don’t drink enough water, or if you’re taking a medication that’s meant to increase your pee, like a diuretic.
Some dog breeds are more prone to overheating, too, and spending too much time in the sun and heat can affect them in the same way.
The National Weather service has put this warning out, and I picked it up off my favorite weather website, Ryan Hall, Y’all. If you want the BEST weather alerts and coverage of storms coming your way, join this channel. This guy has the best storm chasers working with him, and he has saved millions of lives with his spot-on weather warnings.
Consider heat exhaustion and heat strokes as a warning, too.
What To Do
- Move to a cool place, preferably indoors like an air-conditioned room or in front of a fan;
- Place cool, wet cloths or towels on your neck, armpits, or at the back of your legs;
- Gently wet your ears and feet with cool water;
- Sip on cold water, but don’t force it or drink too rapidly;
- Gently mist yourself with cool water, focusing on your head, neck, hands and feet, which have the most blood vessels.
Enjoy the summer months, but make sure to prevent heat exhaustion for both you, Fido, Sylvester, and Tweetie bird.
