Pay attention to your hands and what you touch! You expose yourself to germs from everything you touch, and the germs tuck under your fingernails. Then, they get into your nose and mouth when you touch your face, when you eat, or if you just scratch an itch – this is how disease spreads. Keeping your hands sanitized is one of the BEST ways to prevent catching a cold, the flu, or COVID.
During COVID, most stores had sanitizing wet wipes at their front doors, and I’m sorry to see that most of these stores are not continuing this because it is a great health tool to avoid picking up germs when touching public shopping cart handles and door pulls. It’s unfortunate that many people never use these wipes to clean their shopping cart handles or to clean their hands as they grab a cart and place their hands on public door handles. Sanitizing what you grab does work to prevent catching a common head cold or the flu that’s going around.
When you are out in the public, keep your hands and fingernails clean and keep the surfaces clean on everything that you touch. This is much more important than you realize when you avoid touching the germs making everyone around you sick.
Protecting your hands is #1 during cold an flu season, and when you wash your hands, make sure to clean under your fingernails. Get rid of those germs that tuck up under your nails.

Antibacterial Soaps

I’m not a fan of antibacterial products as your primary cleanser because they can strip the healthy bacteria off your skin’s surface. This leaves it vulnerable to germs and viruses.
If you are in a public place with no soap and water available, keep a bottle of antibacterial soap or wet wipes in your car and use them after you are finished with your public errands.
When you get back home, wash your hands with soap and water, clean under your fingernails, and then use some good lotion to moisturize your skin.
Using regular soap when killing disease-causing germs works just as well as antibacterial soaps because it’s the process of the water removing the germs that makes the difference, especially when you clean under your fingernails. Regular soap is less expensive than antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers, too.
Remember that regular soap won’t destroy the healthy bacteria on your skin’s surface.
Washing your hands is an important step to prevent getting sick, but don’t forget cleaning under your fingernails is just as important! Something so simple is so important.
