I post this article every flu season, so here we go again for 2023 when today’s flu season seems to be the most intense in recent history.
This healthy nasal flush helps prevent germs that have penetrated into your nasal cavity from turning into a cold, the flu, or hopefully COVID. If you think you’ve been exposed to someone who is sick, do this healthy nasal flush daily to prevent getting sick.
This even helps with sinus problems and allergies.
Toxins in Your Nose
If you keep your nasal cavity flushed with alkaline saline that helps prevent ambient toxins from impacting your nasal cavity, sinus issues, allergies, and chronic head colds can be prevented. If toxins can’t embed in your nose, then they can’t get deeper inside of your body.
Try your own cold and flu prevention.
Natural Saline Flush Recipe
Do this as often as needed to remove toxins, allergens, and other microbes.
1-cup filtered or distilled water
1/2-tsp sea salt
- Mix approx 1/2 tsp sea salt in one cup warm water;
- Dissolve;
- Pour saline solution into the palm for your hand and sniff up one nostril at a time;
- Repeat as necessary to drain the nasal passages, and blow your nose as needed.
Sea Salt
Sea salt is a wonderful solution to preventing head colds and the flu. If you live in a big city or are landlocked far away from the seaside, take a healthy dunk in the ocean from your bathroom sink.
Commonly, sea animals and people living along the ocean shores don’t have the allergy issues that people living in highly populated urban areas have because there is saline in the sea air and in the ocean water.
When I was a kid, I lived by the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville, Florida. We’d go to the beach every Sunday, and I had a regular weekly “nasal flush” every time a wave smacked me in the face.
During the winter when the ocean water was too cold to swim, my mother would make my sister and me snuff warm salt water up our nostrils in the bathroom if we had a mere glimmer of a head cold. We both dreaded snuffing salt water up our nose, but we never caught a cold and I have never had allergies.
Fifty years later, I still keep sea salt and a cup for warm water in my bathroom, and whenever I feel a head cold coming or have sinus irritation (which is rare), I snuff warm salt water up my nose, splash it in my eyes, and swish it around my mouth.
Allergies? Don’t have them.
Dry eye? Not anymore.
Heads cold or the flu? I can’t even remember the last time I had a cold or the flu.
This saline flush cleanses the nose, your eyes, the sinuses, and drains into the throat to remove toxins at the back of the mouth.
It never hurts to try preventing getting sick.
No More Dry Eye
Your eyes float in salty water, which is why your tears are salty, so it is healthy to flush your eyes with a mild saline solution to cleanse your eyes and eye lids. Again, it’s no different from getting salt water in your eyes when swimming in the ocean.
Try this if you have dry-eye, and it works well enough to avoid using manufactured, and expensive, eye drops.
The Benefits of Natural Salt
Salt is a natural detoxifier, and aids in the removal of toxins found anywhere in the body. Every living thing naturally contains salt as an essential element for body function.
When your body’s sodium levels are balanced, your digestive system is stimulated to flush toxins, so IBS and constipation should never be an issue. Sodium serves as a brain stimulator, and healthy forms of salt supply your brain with the essential trace minerals needed to stay alert and aware.
And salt cleanses your sinuses of microorganisms, germs, and viruses that can cause allergies, colds and the flu.
So, as more pollutants, viruses, and germs pollute the air these days, simply keep your sinuses clean using a mild saline nasal flush.
You can also use a Neti pot. Or, go take a dunk in the ocean.
